About Us
Here in Texas, helping one another goes with the territory. This year, the Volunteer Center of North Texas is celebrating 35 years of helping people help others. A 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, the Volunteer Center of North Texas has played matchmaker to thousands of nonprofit organizations needing assistance – and countless volunteers anxious to help them.
For 35 years now, organizations serving a myriad of causes addressing everything from animal advocacy to violence prevention have relied on the Volunteer Center as their source of volunteers who want to make a difference.
Volunteers – whether young or old, in groups or individually, with businesses or civic associations – know that their best resource for volunteerism is the Volunteer Center of North Texas.
Mission Statement
To strengthen the community and its nonprofit sector by promoting volunteerism, mobilizing people and leveraging resources.
Together with 360 other Volunteer Centers across the country that comprise the Volunteer Center National Network, there exists a shared vision of mobilizing people and resources to solve community problems. Nationally, Volunteer Centers:
- Reach 140 million people in thousands of communities
- Connect more than 2 million people with over a million opportunities to serve
- Work in partnership with more than 75,000 organizations.
Local Impact
The Volunteer Center of North Texas makes close to 81,000 traditional volunteer referrals annually. The time these volunteers devote to the community, combined with the hours worked by volunteers ordered to perform community service as part of their probation, adds up to more than two and half million hours! That figure multiplied by $18.04, the current estimated value of volunteer time, translates to the equivalent of work performed by more than 1,200 full-time employees at a value to the community nearly $78 million dollars. Another $10 million worth of material resources distributed through our Need & Deed Center brings the amount of total impact to $88 million.
