Through our various programs and services, our staff influence the lives of everyone they come into contact with, from nonprofit organizations and corporate volunteer groups to individual volunteers.

CRITICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Weighted 2:1 on the Performance Duty Task Evaluation)
- Promote and tell the VCNT Story. Enhance and expand the VCNT presence and exposure by implementing the department's overall communications strategies to build our brand image. Promote all programs and services to the public by writing inspiring stories to our supporters and tell stories about everyday people involved with volunteerism.
- Media relations. Responsible for developing and maintaining key media relationships with print and electronic outlets in Dallas, Tarrant and Collin counties, including ongoing and new partnerships with media. Writes and approves press materials, develops and places stories with appropriate media related to Volunteer Center programs, events, and volunteerism in general. Provides follow up and tracking of all VCNT media inquiries and published stories.
- Publications. Develops concepts, writes copy, edits, coordinates and oversees production of quarterly newsletter, Heartbeat which targets corporate sector and donors. Oversees and edits monthly e-newsletters, e-mail messages and any other external communications from various departments targeting, agencies, volunteers, students and corporations.
- Collateral materials. Works with Graphics/Design Specialist in the development of print and electronic promotional and informational materials for programs, products and services offered by the Volunteer Center to wide variety of target markets. This includes: brochures, fact sheets, handbills, flyers etc. Edits work of colleagues as required.
- Branding/ Messaging. Ensures that all VCNT publications and collateral have a consistent look, feel and message. Serves as the Branding Police for all VCNT documents and materials produced for internal and external use.
- Website. Provides editorial leadership, establishes policies and best practices for content creation; ensures the appropriate communication of messages and programs through the web; and manages all content acquisition to ensure that all web content is relevant.
- Volunteer Opportunities. Manages the submission process and communication with Partner members. Creates copy for Partner member volunteer opportunities to run in the media. Seeks new Media Partners to promote volunteer opportunities within Collin, Dallas and Tarrant counties.
- Social Media. Manage and oversee VCNT’s social media staff member and ongoing campaign as he plans, manages, coordinates and executes all social media programs and initiatives. Collaborate with internal stakeholders (customers, staff, management), to provide support to their initiatives. Measure the success of social media activities and report the success to management.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Participate in Development team meetings and Marketing Committee meetings offering suggestions and thoughts on public relations, marketing, branding and promoting VCNT to agencies, corporations, media and potential donors.
- Proofreads all publications, collateral, speeches, presentations, memos of understanding, grants, applications, letters, solicitations, mass emails, videos, orientations, trainings, certificates, and web content before project completion and assures quality and timing of all VNCT communications materials.
- Coordinates the design promotional materials, invitations, signage and other pieces as needed for events in Collin, Dallas and Tarrant County with Graphics/design specialist.
- Works with Director of Corporate Services and Manager of Development on various projects utilizing expertise and knowledge over communications/marketing/editing/writing/media relations.
- Takes pictures at all VCNT special events and compiles testimonials and quotes.
- Participates in warehouse fundraisers as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL SKILLS AND/OR REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing or related field plus at least 2-5 years of successful media relations experience with a nonprofit; 1 year minimum social media experience.
- Demonstrated writing abilities are essential.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Must display an ability to set objectives and goals and achieve them while maintaining flexibility, especially in working with others.
- Good time management and personal flexibility that enables management of multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of nonprofit sector a plus.
- Attention to detail is a must.
- Computer proficiency required in MS Office 2000 and Adobe PageMaker or InDesign desktop publishing program.
- Valid TX driver’s License, current auto liability insurance and dependable transportation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
All agency employees must maintain an acceptable attendance record as established by the agency. This position may require standing, bending, lifting and staking office equipment and supplies weighing up to 20-30 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Volunteer Opportunities at the VCNT
Municipal Service Intern
The Municipal Services Intern will help coordinate communications and volunteer management services for the City of Dallas volunteer initiative, ServiceWorks! Spring 2012 volunteers should be available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week, including a minimum of four hours on Thursday and Friday 8am-12pm. Business casual attire is required. Major Responsibilities:
- Manage volunteer opportunity submissions for municipal departments
- Produce content for the ServiceWorks! Newsletter, a monthly e-newsletter for municipal volunteers
- Assist manage in tracking and reporting program results
- Identify volunteers for current City of Dallas volunteer opportunities and internships
Minimum Experience and Requirements:
- Must enjoy working directly with people in a recruitment environment
- Organized and timely in completing reporting processes
- Capable of presenting information quickly, accurately and efficiently
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interest and basic knowledge and/or experience in public relations or communications
Hands At™ Work Corporate Employee Program - Corporate Project Internship
The Corporate Project Internship will provide students with an opportunity to learn about the importance of service by assisting corporations as well as offer the joy, gratification, and rewards of working in the nonprofit arena through project management. Students will also be given the opportunity to put together real world research in the area of corporate volunteerism (corporate social responsibility) that could yield potential implications for corporations and nonprofits.
