Special Events: Teen Events
Collin County Teen Fair
The Collin County Teen Fair is open to middle and high school students from local schools within Collin County to learn about volunteer opportunities in their community. Nonprofit organizations participate in the fair to promote their programs, products, and services with the intent to meet and engage students to exchange ideas and answer questions about nonprofits and volunteer opportunities.
The 2009 Teen Volunteer Fair will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3 at Strikz Entertainment Center (8789 Lebanon Road, Frisco, TX). Teens are invited to learn about volunteer opportunities in the community and meet representatives from organizations such as Equest, McKinney Performing Arts Center, Frisco Miracle League, CITY House, New Start Angel Food and more.
All participating teens will receive a FREE game of laser tag or bowling. The first 100 teens who visit agencies will also receive a FREE t-shirt.
Special thanks to event sponsors Strikz, Junior League of Plano, JCPenney and Tom Thumb for helping the Volunteer Center provide this community networking opportunity for youth.
SMU & TCU Leadership Institutes
Annual leadership seminars take place in Dallas and in Tarrant County. The Tarrant County teen event is held at Texas Christian University (TCU) in the fall and at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas early in the year.
Leadership seminars are open to Fort Worth and Dallas public and private high school students. A minimum of 300 students are selected for each event. Student leadership seminars promote youth volunteerism through leadership and public service. They feature interactive learning sessions and a volunteer fair for students to explore how they can impact the community through volunteerism. The seminar serves as a youth outreach event and recruitment tool by nonprofit agencies for students to learn new skills and explore the concept of social responsibility.
