Become a Disaster Volunteer
To assist the Mass Care Task Force in responding to critical needs during a time of disaster, we need individuals, groups and businesses to register as pre-identified volunteers. When a disaster strikes, and the Mass Care Task Force is activated, our pre-identified volunteers will be the first to learn how to assist the community and respond to their needs quickly.

About the Mass Care Task Force
The Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) and other funders have pledged to support a first-in-the-nation disaster collaboration of The Volunteer Center of North Texas, The American Red Cross Dallas Area Chapter, The North Texas Food Bank, and The Salvation Army - DFW Metroplex Area Command.
The four agencies joined forces as a Mass Care Task Force right after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Each organization's primary disaster responsibilities relate to their general areas of expertise. The Volunteer Center recruits and assigns volunteers needed to assist in the relief efforts, The American Red Cross recruits and trains volunteers to manage shelter operations, The North Texas Food Bank provides food and drink, and The Salvation Army prepares and serves meals.
The $5 million pledge from the Caruth Foundation at CFT serves as a lead challenge grant, to be matched dollar for dollar. The $26.7 million project will enable the four collaborating organizations to be ready for catastrophic disasters impacting Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis and Tarrant counties.
